Donald Trump on Experience VS Education
So, does education matter or experience? We have been going back and forth on this frequently recently.
Donald Trump says its experience, and most of the people that I meet concur.
Where you will be 2 years after you graduate does not depend on whether you spent $$$$ studying at LUMS or went to other univs here, but on how little you were willing to sleep and “have a life” in those early years of your careers.
20 years after you graduate no one would even care about your education — they will care about the type of dealmaker you are in a specific type of industry.
The thing to consider is this: Why would you want to depend on the brand of someone else (e.g. LUMS) to have people respect you? Why can’t your own worth by enough to turn heads?
The bottom line should be this: The key to becoming that glowing gem that everyone in the industry is desperate to know and associate with IS in how dependable you can become.
Can someone else put his credibility on the line to push your ideas forward, and then KNOW that you will be right there to catch the ball and execute?
If you can, you will not only have the elusive job satisfaction but will also make millions. You will have the credibility and the right to propose your ideas, and you will be able to do the types of things you want to do.
If you cannot, then all you are is a person who keeps complaining about letting him do what he wishes to do — no one backrolls, supports or puts their money on unreliable and undependable people.
That was my take — Donald’s take is more business oriented and you can read it here.

i would say the initial two years of work, are the ,pst crucial and makes you what you will be in coming 20. for me atleast experience is more preferable to education. i would happily preffer a two year experienced person who has shown his worth over a master. and my guess is most IT firms in Lahore atleast will pay that 2 year experienced person more than the MS guy.

nice post. Education and experience both have their own advantages. higher education prepares you to meet tougher entry level requirement for a job. while experience gives you the skills, to face realworld challenges.
While I agree with the contents of the post, I have a feeling that you have become biased towards LUMS and LUMS graduates :) (I am not affiliated with lums in any way)

Hi Israr,
Contrary to what may seem, I am always hopeful about LUMs. I want to believe the story that LUMs is a shining example of quality higher education in PK and want to spread that message virally.
However, good marketing doesnt make viral messages, good products do.
I see a lot of potential and skills in the LUMS candidates I meet in that they’re smart individuals…. just that they are oftenr too unaware of themselves (for both sides of balance)
The discussion on the blogs has been clear enough about the industry’s take on LUMS grads, and as Ive said before the firms that I can influence continue to evaluate LUMS candidates, but very cautiously

education and your institution matter a lot.. not only here but around the world. its a reality. I work for UBS in London and after graduating from Oxford (after LUMS) had offers from Google (did I hear LUMS grads are not hired by ‘local’ IT companies) and the usual global i-banks. i am a part of the recruitment drive at UBS, and please let me enlighten some of you.. All big companies only hire from the top 6 universities. So if you are a graduate from say Bath or Notingham, even if you are genius you will have to either work for smaller companies or do further studies. Its as simple as that. Google management told me that in order to maintain quality they only hire from Oxbridge and LBS. Similarly in the US, a harvard graduate will always have better options than say university of arizona. True if Mcdonalds is hiring for a sales job, they would never hire Harvard grads!
Education makes a difference, which is why there is a huge difference between pay scales for LUMS grads and the others. I totally agree LUMS grad are a misfit in small, local firms, which is why most of them do end up in foriegn firms. I dont think anyone with an iota of entrepeneurial zeal should limit her/his ambition and ability to succeeed to suit her/his employer.
